Polaris Music Prize – Contract Positions Available For 2023 Season

Polaris Music Prize has the following contract position available for our 2023 season.

PRODUCTION MANAGER
MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS CONSULTANT
ARTIST & COMMUNITY RELATIONS

PRODUCTION MANAGER

Polaris Music Prize is looking for a contract Production Manager to execute the Polaris Gala 2023. The Production Manager will oversee all production logistics including equipment rentals, securing show staffing, execute venue hall creative design, create show schedule, and work directly with artists to create an exceptional experience and event for all participants.

Skills & Experience:
* Post-secondary education in a related field or equivalent work experience
* Self-motivated and proactive with the ability to multitask in a fast paced, deadline driven environment
* Experience working on large scale projects and concerts
* Budget management & expense tracking
* Ability to think on your feet and adapt quickly to change
* Highly organized with attention to detail and desire to take initiative
* Ability to take direction and show initiative
* Proven track record of directing, hiring and/or leading teams of production personnel
* Knowledge of Dropbox, Gmail and G Suite and Microsoft office programs
* Ability to workdays, evenings, and weekends as required.

Responsibilities:
* Work alongside Polaris Executive and creative design team to create an artist friendly Gala event
* Manage and advance the venue technical and production logistics
* Manage any and all technical and production equipment rentals, along with relationships with vendors and vendor contract management
* Execute creative design specific to the concert hall including stage design and hall layout
* Create the production schedule for the Polaris Music Prize Gala 2023
* Artist Relations Management; advancing performance talent requirements, scheduling rehearsals and production rentals as needed
* Organize, hire, and advance production support staff – Stage manager, Stagehands, Lighting, audio and video operators
* Coordinate with any Gala Broadcast and Brand Partnership teams integration and technical requirements

Project Timeline:
* February – March – 2023 Financial forecast and budget
* March – May – Creative Design and vendor procurement
* June – Long List Announcement; establish deliverable list for each Short List nominee performance
* July – Short List Announcement ; manage artist advance, technical requirements, advance
* July – September – Gala production Advance, Artist performance advance and deliverable confirmation
September – Event Execution

Compensation:
This contract position will be compensated $15,000.

MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS CONSULTANT

Polaris Music Prize is looking for a Marketing & Communication Contractor to create and implement a thoughtful and creative communication strategy plan. We want you to clean house and set Polaris up for long-term success by building our brand identity, applying communication best practices, streamlining processes, and implementing the right tools to set us up for success in the future. The candidate will also be responsible for exploring, securing, and executing new media partnerships in alignment with the Polaris mission, vision, and values. Finally, this position will assist in overseeing Polaris event season promotions, marketing campaigns, brand recognition media assets, communication channels, and onsite media participation.

Skills & Experience:
* 3+ years of relevant work experience in a social media marketing role
* Experience in building and nurturing an online community around a brand
* Experience in executing cross promotional partnerships
* Demonstrated ability to formulate strategy, interpret analytics, and communicate results
* Experience in events marketing
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Effective storyteller
* Fluency in all major social platforms (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Twitter, & YouTube) and passion for utilizing and optimizing their features expertise in running organic social media campaigns across multiple channels
* Demonstrated understanding of social media platforms, their unique audiences, and how to use them to maximize branding and marketing efforts
* In-depth knowledge and understanding of online community platforms and best practices, with a passion for staying current on communications, social and content marketing trends
* Record of superior attention to detail and organizational skills with the ability to deliver high-quality work, multi-task, and manage deadlines

Responsibilities:
* Lead, develop, and mentor all Polaris Music Prize social media
* Oversee social strategy and content curation for all key marketing activities
* Identify prospective media partners to create in-kind marketing partnerships that align with Polaris mission, vision, and values
* Bring innovative ideas from development through execution of social and digital campaigns, maintaining consistency across all platforms
* Architect and manage the development of the brand’s social calendar, translating high-level marketing strategy and messaging into relevant weekly and daily content
* Track and measure impact of all events and marketing tactics
* Utilize social analytics platforms and survey the competitive landscape to share insights and trends to create data-driven content
* Manage monthly and quarterly analytics reporting process, provide insights, recommendations, and track against KPIs

Project Timeline:
* February – March – Review and create best practise communication strategy plan
* March – May – Identify and implement alternative marketing tools
* June – Identify media partner prospects and participate in solicitation
* July-September – Participate in event season marketing and promotion
* October – Event reporting

Compensation:
$35 per hr – 714hr total – Estimated 20 hr per week – Hours to be completed between February-October with work hours to be agreed upon

ARTIST & COMMUNITY RELATIONS

Polaris Music Prize is looking for a contract Artist & Community Relations Coordinator to launch our new partnership programs and ensure an excellent experience for all participating partners and artists in 2023. The Artist & Community Relations Coordinator will execute the launch of a not-for-profit, affiliate event, and business partner program including all special projects under these portfolios. This role will also stand as the lead point of contact for all 2023 Short List artists to coordinate travel and accommodation logistics to ensure an exceptional experience during their participation.

Skills & Experience:
* Knowledge of the performing arts, music industry and/or entertainment, arts and culture industry an asset
* Outstanding relationship-management skills, including the ability to work closely and collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders
* Savvy communications and research skills
* Experience in event planning, operational logistics, and project management

Responsibilities:
Research, create, schedule, and monitor multiple partnership and outreach initiatives
* Create strategic relationships with partners
* Research, build and help maintain contact databases.
* Maintain the outreach activities, national network building, and secure mutually beneficial partnerships
* Execute and oversee all logistics related to Polaris poster exhibition with national based business partners
* Manage and coordinate artist travel and accommodations
* Create a memorable experience for participating artists
* Liaison for artists, managers, publicists and booking agents, managers, etc.
* Day-to-day administration
* Participate in event season as needed
* Day-to-day tour advancement

Project Timeline:
* February – March – 2023 – Research and consult with prospective partnership partnerships
* March – May – Launch partnership programs
* May – June – Oversee the Longlist launch event with business partner
* July – September – Manage traveling poster exhibition with business partner program participants
* July-September – Coordinate all travel and accommodation logistics for Short List nominees October – Create closedown report and legacy documentation for partnership programs

Compensation:
$30 per hr – 1,283 hr total – Estimated 30 hr per week – Hours to be completed between February-October with work hours to be agreed upon

Event Season: Polaris Music Prize hosts a series of signature events annually to announce and celebrate the nomination process and winners.

Long List: The Long List is where Polaris reveals the 40 nominated albums that will be considered for a given year’s Prize.

Short List: The Short List is where Polaris reveals the 10 finalist albums that will be considered for a given year’s Prize.

Gala: Our prestige winner reveal event, the Polaris Gala features live musical performances from the nominated acts on the Polaris Short List. The Polaris Prize winner is determined by an 11-member Polaris Grand Jury selected from the greater Polaris juror pool.

The Polaris Gala is hosted annually in September.

Heritage Prize: The Heritage Prize is a hall of fame-minded critics prize/public polling campaign meant to celebrate classic Canadian albums created before Polaris began in 2006. Like the Polaris Music Prize, winners and nominees of the Heritage Prize are albums of the highest artistic distinction, without regard to sales or affiliations.
