Hannah Georgas covering Arcade Fire<\/p><\/div>\n

The Polaris Music Prize, presented by CBC Music<\/a> and produced by Blue Ant Media<\/a>, has revealed the second SiriusXM Polaris Cover Session for 2017 featuring Hannah Georgas reinterpreting \u201cCrown Of Love\u201d from Arcade Fire\u2019s 2004 album Funeral<\/em>.<\/p>\n

An in-studio performance video of the song is now available via the Polaris Music Prize\u2019s YouTube<\/a> and Facebook<\/a> channels. Additionally, an audio stream of it can be found on the official Polaris Soundcloud page. Georgas recorded her version of \u201cCrown Of Love\u201d at Toronto\u2019s Woodshed studio. She also plays all instruments on the song. \u00a0It was produced and engineered by Holy Fuck’s Graham Walsh.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt just brings me back to when I first moved to the West Coast. I was going to school in Victoria and my friend and I would just play this record over and over again,\u201d said Georgas in the video. \u201cIt brings back a lot of memories and it\u2019s just a really close record to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Georgas\u2019 adaptation is the second of three cover sessions planned for 2017 that will feature past Polaris nominees reinterpreting songs from the \u201chall of fame\u201d albums that have received Slaight Family Polaris Heritage Prize<\/a> designation. Arcade Fire\u2019s Funeral<\/em> album earned its Heritage Prize designation last year in the 1996-2005 public vote category. Georgas has been nominated for the Polaris Prize twice in the past, making the 2010 Long List for her This Is Good<\/em> album and again in 2013 for her self-titled record.<\/p>\n

The Arcade Fire cover joins Les soeurs Boulay\u2019s take<\/a> on Kate & Anna McGarrigle\u2019s \u201cComplainte pour Ste-Catherine,\u201d which was the first Heritage Prize adaptation released this past March. The third cover session will be released in August. All three of these cover sessions will then be compiled onto a collectible 10\u201d vinyl record that will be given free to purchasers of 2017 Polaris nominated albums at participating record retail stores in the fall.<\/p>\n

Other songs in the cover sessions series<\/a>, which are also supported by SOCAN<\/a> and Precision Record Pressing<\/a>, include Zaki Ibrahim performing Leonard Cohen\u2019s \u201cShow Me The Place,\u201d Whitehorse performing The New Pornographers\u2019 \u201cBones Of An Idol,\u201d Sarah Harmer performing Caribou\u2019s \u201cOdessa,\u201d Great Lake Swimmers performing Sarah Harmer\u2019s \u201cI\u2019m A Mountain,\u201d Arkells performing Owen Pallett\u2019s \u201cI Am Not Afraid\u201d and Joel Plaskett performing Feist\u2019s \u201cBittersweet Melodies.\u201d<\/p>\n
