It’s a poorly kept secret that there’s a special club that all the Polaris Music Prize jurors hang out in to hurl insults at each other, share fart jokes and contemplate The Hunger Games<\/em> fan fiction.<\/p>\n

They also talk about music. Passionately. As in, someone says â\u20ac\u0153X album is awesome,â\u20ac so Y person goes, â\u20ac\u0153No, it’s poo,â\u20ac then Z person is like, â\u20ac\u0153No, you’re<\/em> poo. It’s double-awesome.â\u20ac That kind of stuff.<\/p>\n

Now we’re going to start bringing some of this conversation to you, the public. We’ll be skipping the poo-face talk, but the stuff about the records… yeah, there’ll be lots of that.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, our favourite Polaris People have been up to many interesting things again this week.<\/p>\n

Here’s what they did:<\/p>\n

Current reigning Polaris champs the Arcade Fire<\/strong> did a little sneaky<\/a> recently. They showed up at the Brooklyn Ferry music festival and played Devo covers under the fake name Phi Slamma Jamma.<\/p>\n

Tegan And Sara<\/strong>, who were Short Listed in 2010 have totally swerved<\/a> us on their â\u20ac\u0153carpool confessionalâ\u20ac series. They didn’t do the latest one in a car. They did it in a kitchen. But it was cool â\u20ac\u02dccause Sophie from Carnivale<\/em> showed up (sooo random).<\/p>\n

The Weeknd<\/strong> has been busy. Last week it was about playing in cemeteries<\/a>. This week it’s appearing<\/a> at Drake shows and having new (old) songs hit <\/a>the internet.<\/p>\n

Twice nominated (one Short List, one Long List) Montrealers The Dears<\/strong> are going to be playing<\/a> the Istanbul Jazz Festival in July. It should not be confused with Constantinople. <\/p>\n

Former Polaris champion Patrick Watson<\/strong> apparently has a thing about hats<\/a>. He also really likes<\/a> Half Moon Run, Julien Sagot and The Barr Brothers.<\/p>\n

Twice Short-Listed rapper K’naan<\/strong> hung out with avid car collector Jay Leno recently. He performed<\/a> the song â\u20ac\u0153Hurt Me Tomorrow.â\u20ac<\/p>\n

Radio Radio<\/strong>, who hit the Short List in 2010, explained to the Ottawa Sun about what constitutes higher frequency<\/a> connectedness feelings humans experience â\u20ac\u201d like sunsets and meeting strangers.<\/p>\n

Spin is catching the Dan Mangan fever and explaining<\/a> how he got one of his first bits of exposure by interrupting a Christmas party. <\/p>\n

Finally, more concert organizers continue to show good taste. The Vancouver Folk Festival<\/a>, Victoria’s Rifflandia Festival<\/a>, the Wolfe Island Festival <\/a>in Kingston and the Dooryard Festival<\/a> in Woodstock, New Brunswick have all seen fit to book past Polaris nominees for their events.
