The Polaris Music Prize Long List announcement happening in Vancouver, BC on June 14 is going to have some star power behind it.<\/p>\n

Past nominees Dan Mangan<\/strong> (2010 Short List for \u00ab\u00a0Nice, Nice, Very Nice\u00a0\u00bb) Hannah Georgas<\/strong> (2010 Long List for \u00ab\u00a0This is Good\u00a0\u00bb) and Veda Hille <\/strong>(2008 Long List for \u00ab\u00a0This Riot Life\u00a0\u00bb) will be on-hand to help out when Steve Jordan, Founder and Executive Director of the Polaris Music Prize, unveils the 2012 Polaris Long List at Vancouver’s Waldorf Hotel<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This year’s Long List announcement, which can be heard on SiriusXM Channel 152<\/a> and CBC Radio3<\/a>, beginning at 11 a.m. PT \/ 2 p.m. ET, is particularly exciting because it marks the first time any major announcement related to the Prize hasn’t happened in Toronto, Ontario. <\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0This year is shaping up to be quite competitive,\u00a0\u00bb said Jordan. \u00ab\u00a0We’re eagerly anticipating our first event outside of Toronto. That we’re celebrating with Vancouver’s industry, artists and media for the announcement just adds to an already exciting launch to the Polaris season.\u00a0\u00bb <\/p>\n

Speaking of Vancouver media, they’re not going to waste any time getting into the arguing about what did and didn’t make the 2012 Long List. <\/p>\n

Later in the evening at the Waldorf there’ll be an edition of the increasingly popular Polaris Salons<\/strong>. At 8 p.m. a panel of jurists including Stuart Derdeyn (Vancouver Province<\/a>), Shawn Conner (Guttersnipe Press<\/a>), and Brad Frenette (CBC Music<\/a>) will be joined by Jordan to discuss the recently announced Long List, which of those titles they predict to move on to the Short List, and records that didn’t make the Long List. Long List Salons are also being planned for Montreal and Toronto.<\/p>\n

In other news, as of, well, right now, the MROC<\/a>, The Musicians’ Rights Organization Canada, will officially be sponsoring the Long List.<\/p>\n

This is what the Polaris Music Prize brilliantly promotes and we are honoured to be a part of it.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n

Finally, another thing that the Polaris Prize also promotes is mind-bending poster art<\/a>. Each year Polaris commissions 10 artists to \u00ab\u00a0interpret\u00a0\u00bb the albums that make the Short List and turn those visions into ultra-limited collector’s edition posters.
