The Summer Olympics may be about to kick off in London, England, but the real competition is over here in Polarisland.<\/p>\n

After all, the Olympics has things like the One Person Dinghy race and we've got the potential for a cosmic showdown between Fucked Up<\/strong> and Drake<\/strong>. So unless there are random shark attacks in the dinghy races, we know which one's more interesting.<\/p>\n

Don't believe me? How about the Grammys? They think <\/a>we're important. Or the guys that have done, to the best of our knowledge, the first ever Polaris Music Prize fantasy draft <\/a>(Feist<\/strong> was selected first overall).<\/p>\n

And then there are the actual special people, the Polaris People. Let's see what they were up to this week.<\/p>\n

This year's Short List nominees continue to get lots of attention:<\/p>\n

Fucked Up<\/strong> have been finding themselves drawn towards food<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Kathleen Edwards<\/strong> has been talking about booze<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Cold Specks <\/strong>explained who some of influential artists in her life were<\/a>. Spoiler alert: Swans, Smog, Nick Cave, Tom Waits, The Strokes.<\/p>\n

Cadence Weapon<\/strong> is being â\u20ac\u0153less tricky<\/a>â\u20ac and considering working<\/a> with Shad <\/strong>in the future. <\/p>\n

And Drake<\/strong>? He's been performing<\/a> at barmitzvahs, having to deal with suspicious<\/a> boxing promoters and generally being the most listened<\/a> to artist in the world.<\/p>\n

Some past Polaris People have been active as well.<\/p>\n

New Pornographers<\/strong> leader A.C. Newman has a new solo<\/a> album coming out, Dan Snaith of former champs Caribou<\/strong> is putting<\/a> out a side-project as Daphni, 2007 Short Listers The Dears <\/strong>are prepping<\/a> a live album and two-time Short Lister Shad<\/strong> has just released the â\u20ac\u0153Melancholy And The Infinite Shadnessâ\u20ac EP and you really should get<\/a> it (it's a free download).<\/p>\n

Polaris jurors Anupa Mistry <\/a>and Alan Ranta<\/a> have laid down who they think might win the big prize in September.<\/p>\n

Two time Short Lister K'naan <\/strong>had a song on True Blood recently and some folks thought that was a pretty big deal<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Former Polaris champ Owen Pallett<\/strong> now exists in comic<\/a> book form.<\/p>\n
