So unless there are random shark attacks in the dinghy races, we know which one&#39;s more interesting.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#39;t believe me? How about the Grammys? They <a href = 'https:\/\/www.grammy.com\/blogs\/drake-feist-make-polaris-short-list'>think <\/a>we&#39;re important. Or the guys that have done, to the best of our knowledge, the first ever Polaris Music Prize<a href = 'https:\/\/winniecooper.net\/2012\/07\/the-only-annual-polaris-prize-short-list-fantasy-draft\/'> fantasy draft <\/a>(<strong>Feist<\/strong> was selected first overall).<\/p>\n<p>And then there are the actual special people, the Polaris People. Let&#39;s see what they were up to this week.<\/p>\n<p>This year&#39;s Short List nominees continue to get lots of attention:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fucked Up<\/strong> have been finding themselves drawn towards<a href = 'https:\/\/www.aux.tv\/2012\/07\/fucked-up-join-anthony-bourdains-toronto-food-tour\/'> food<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kathleen Edwards<\/strong> has been talking about<a href = 'https:\/\/www.salon.com\/topic\/kathleen_edwards\/'> booze<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cold Specks <\/strong>explained who some of influential artists in her life <a href = 'https:\/\/music.cbc.ca\/blogs\/2012\/5\/5-for-20-Cold-Specks'>were<\/a>. Spoiler alert: Swans, Smog, Nick Cave, Tom Waits, The Strokes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cadence Weapon<\/strong> is being &acirc;\u20ac\u0153<a href = 'https:\/\/www.thestar.com\/entertainment\/article\/1229401--cadence-weapon-rhymes-off-his-reasons'>less tricky<\/a>&acirc;\u20ac and considering <a href = 'https:\/\/www.hiphopcanada.com\/2012\/07\/a-quick-five-with-cadence-weapon-interview\/'>working<\/a> with <strong>Shad <\/strong>in the future. <\/p>\n<p>And <strong>Drake<\/strong>? He&#39;s been <a href = 'https:\/\/www.thejc.com\/arts\/music\/70497\/drake-%E2%80%94-rap-star-who-performs-barmitzvahs'>performing<\/a> at barmitzvahs, having to deal with <a href = 'https:\/\/www.starpulse.com\/news\/RumorFix\/2012\/07\/22\/exclusive_boxing_promoter_claims_drake'>suspicious<\/a> boxing promoters and generally being the most <a href = 'https:\/\/www.fuse.tv\/2012\/07\/drake-is-the-most-streamed-artist-on-spotify-top-100'>listened<\/a> to artist in the world.<\/p>\n<p>Some past Polaris People have been active as well.<\/p>\n<p><strong>New Pornographers<\/strong> leader A.C. Newman has a new <a href = 'https:\/\/pitchfork.com\/news\/47241-new-pornographers-ac-newman-announces-new-solo-album-north-american-fall-tour\/'>solo<\/a> album coming out, Dan Snaith of former champs <strong>Caribou<\/strong> is <a href = 'https:\/\/www.spinner.ca\/2012\/07\/24\/caribou-dan-snaith-daphni\/'>putting<\/a> out a side-project as Daphni, 2007 Short Listers <strong>The Dears <\/strong>are <a href = 'https:\/\/music.cbc.ca\/#\/blogs\/2012\/7\/Sneak-preview-of-The-Dears-new-live-album'>prepping<\/a> a live album and two-time Short Lister <strong>Shad<\/strong> has just released the &acirc;\u20ac\u0153Melancholy And The Infinite Shadness&acirc;\u20ac EP and you really should <a href = 'https:\/\/thebrokenspeaker.com\/2012\/07\/19\/new-shad-ep-melancholy-and-the-infinite-shadness\/'>get<\/a> it (it&#39;s a free download).<\/p>\n<p>Polaris jurors <a href = 'https:\/\/music.cbc.ca\/blogs\/2012\/7\/Drake-Cadence-Weapon-nominated-but-can-hip-hop-win-the-Polaris-Music-Prize'>Anupa Mistry <\/a>and <a href = 'https:\/\/music.cbc.ca\/genres\/Hip-Hop\/blogs\/2012\/7\/Polaris-juror-Alan-Ranta-on-why-Cadence-Weapon-could-take-the-prize'>Alan Ranta<\/a> have laid down who they think might win the big prize in September.<\/p>\n<p>Two time Short Lister <strong>K&#39;naan <\/strong>had a song on True Blood recently and some folks thought that was a pretty<a href = 'https:\/\/blogs.houstonpress.com\/rocks\/2012\/07\/true_blood_in_the_beginning.php'> big deal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Former Polaris champ <strong>Owen Pallett<\/strong> now exists in <a href = 'https:\/\/www.nickthornborrow.com\/comics\/heartland\/'>comic<\/a> book form.<\/p>\n<p>And finally, promoters continue to see $$ when they look at the Polaris People.
