These are the last days of uncertainty. By this time next week we’ll know who the next Polaris Music Prize champion will be. <\/p>\n

We shall shower them with champagne. We will bequeath to them the giant novelty cheque (which will then get broken by CBC’s Vish Khanna, and he’ll then blame Arcade Fire). We will then pillory said act with claims they’re undeserving, too underground, too overground, too arty, or not arty enough.<\/p>\n

And it will be glorious.<\/p>\n

So let’s take one last look at what the 2012 Short List nominees were doing in the days leading up to the Polaris Gala (being broadcast live on Monday, Sept. 24, exclusively on SiriusXM radio â\u20ac\u201dSirius channels 151 and 152; XM channel 151 â\u20ac\u201d and CBC Radio 3, with simultaneous Peep Show party<\/a> going down at Toronto’s Drake Hotel *tickets still available*:<\/p>\n

Beck. Nas. Ghostface Killah. The Streets. Daft Punk. This is what builds<\/a> the stuff that is Cadence Weapon<\/strong>. And his mom thinks<\/a> you’re biting his styles. <\/p>\n

Cold Specks<\/strong> has apparently acquired<\/a> a Marxophone. We don’t even know what that is, but it sure looks like a prop instrument from the set of HBO’s Carnivale<\/em>. (P.S., it’s a fretless zither.) (Also, also, we still <\/em>don’t know what that is.)<\/p>\n

Drake <\/strong>is pretty much the most pirated <\/a>musician in the world right now. That’s a lot of cash money being left on the table, but we suspect he’s still doing OK. Oh, and remember that story about him doing summer school to get his high school diploma? Credit<\/a> Kentucky basketball coach John Calipari.<\/p>\n


\nKathleen Edwards<\/strong> says she’s crashing<\/a> the cool kids party at the Gala on Monday. Before she does that though, she’s going to be the cool kid<\/a> in Kingston a couple days earlier.<\/p>\n
