Polaris Podcast EP2: Kaytranada Wins Is Now Live
The second episode of the Polaris Podcast is now live.
Listen to it in the following ways:
In this episode we’re going to take an in-depth look at Kaytranada’s 99.9%, the album that won the 2016 Polaris Music Prize this past September.
The first thing we’ll do is talk to someone who was right there beside Kaytranada, literally banging his hands on the stage at Toronto’s Carlu, when the Montreal producer’s name was announced as the winner — BADBADNOTGOOD bassist Chester Hansen. BBNG played on 99.9%, contributing to the song “Weight Off,” and Hansen will tell you how it felt to be part of the big moment.
Next, we’ll talk to CBC Music’s Del Cowie, who was the Polaris Grand Jury member who spoke on behalf of 99.9% that night at the Polaris Gala. He’ll tell you what he loved about the album as well as share the argument for 99.9% that he presented to the rest of the Polaris Grand Jury.
Finally, we’ll get head over to the Red Bull Music Academy where Polaris juror Anupa Mistry had an in-depth conversation with Kaytranada shortly after his Polaris victory. In this segment we’ll get special insight into the Montreal piu piu scene where Kaytranada got his start as a beatmaker.
The Polaris Podcast explores the rich and intriguing stories behind the Canadian music albums of distinction that have been nominated for the Polaris Music Prize and its related Slaight Family Polaris Heritage Prize.
