Now that we’re deep into #Polaris2018 season we thought it would be a good time to tackle some of your frequently asked Polaris questions.

To do this we sat down Polaris executive director Steve Jordan and asked him about how the Polaris prize winner is determined, how the Polaris jury is selected, what musical acts can do to get Polaris attention, and the best all-time Polaris Gala performances.

Jordan also used the podcast to explain what reaction to the Polaris winner announcement is like each year.

“Honestly, picking a winner usually pisses off more people than it pleases,” said Jordan. “But that’s fine. Because you’re still discussing records and if you’re 12 months or eight months after a record was out, talking about how it got ripped off by it not winning… you’re still talking about it and you’re still checking all that stuff out..”
