Join Toronto rock force SATE for an intimate listening session at The Vault Creation Lab, offering a rare glimpse into the early stages of her newest project — a fierce and vulnerable rock opera exploring the mother-daughter thread and the mother wound. Through music, words, and soulful reflection, she shares the sparks and shadows that shape her work.

SATE (PREVIOUS POLARIS NOMINEE)
SATE is a powerhouse artist whose music and presence radiate energy, divine womanhood, and raw soul. The daughter of legendary singer Salome Bey, she blends a lifetime of musical immersion into her signature riff-heavy rock. A 2022 Juno Award nominee and Polaris Prize long-listed artist for her album The Fool, SATE is renowned for her “tornado of a stage presence.” Her recent credits include Treemonisha (Volcano/Luminato/Harris), APORTIA CHRYPTYCH (Canadian Opera Company), and past performances in For Colored Girls, A Streetcar Named Desire, and Adventures of a Black Girl In Search of God.
THE VAULT CREATION LAB
A sister company to the Coal Mine Theatre, The Vault Creation Lab is a space where writers, creators, and playwrights are afforded the opportunity to explore, experiment, and invest in their ideas in the critical stages of development. The Vault offers playwrights and artists a community and a place to train, commune, craft and grow. Welcome to The Vault.
POLARIS MUSIC PRIZE
Polaris Music Prize is a Canadian charitable arts organization celebrating 20 years of honouring music as art. From June to September 2025, the new Polaris Music Prize Festival brings concerts, salons, and listening sessions to Toronto and across Ontario — culminating in the Polaris Concert & Award Ceremony on September 16 at Massey Hall. Through its Album, Song, and Heritage Prizes, Polaris amplifies Canadian artists based on artistic merit — not genre, sales, or algorithmic popularity. With 700+ artists championed, over $1.4M in prize and artist fees awarded, and a jury of over 200 music critics and curators, Polaris protects space for boundary-pushing music and fosters a deeper national music culture. Learn more at polarismusicprize.ca.
The event is part of the Polaris Music Prize Festival presented by SiriusXM Canada. CBC presents the 2025 Polaris Music Prize. This project is funded in part by FACTOR, the Government of Canada, and Canada’s private radio broadcasters. It is supported by SiriusXM Canada, Ontario Creates, the Government of Ontario, the Ontario Cultural Attractions Fund, and the Slaight Family Foundation.
