Polaris Panels Announced For Vancouver, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Halifax

Polaris Panels are coming to Vancouver, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Halifax.

Formerly known as Salons, Polaris Panels will feature general information about the Polaris judging process. Local jurists will offer insight into their own personal criteria for selecting their ballots.

“In the past, Salons had a general target audience of music obsessives, musicians, and aspiring music journalists. Increasingly we were aware that our audience for these discussions were chiefly artists wanting to know more about the Prize, so we’re recalibrating these sessions slightly to speak directly to them,” explained Polaris Founder and Executive Director Steve Jordan of the changes. “That said, anyone with an interest in knowing more about Polaris are more than welcome to join us.”

RACS (The Recording Artists’ Collecting Society) is back once again as sponsor of these events.

“ACTRA RACS is happy to return as a sponsor for the 10th annual Polaris Prize,” says ACTRA National President Ferne Downey. “These panels are not only a part of the celebration of Canadian music but also give music fans and recording artists an intimate look at the process of selecting the top Canadian album of the year.”

The panels will be co-produced by Music BC, Manitoba Music, The National Arts Centre, Pop Montreal and Halifax Pop Explosion.

Each panel will also feature a Q&A session with the audience and, of special note to savvy record collector types, there will be prizes.

The Polaris Music Prize Long List announcement will head to Halifax, NS on June 16. The 40 titles will be announced at the world famous Carleton music venue and will run in conjunction with the team at Halifax Pop Explosion.

The Short List will be unveiled on July 16 at The Carlu in Toronto, and the Polaris Music Prize Gala will return to The Carlu for its third year, taking place on Monday, September 21. Aux.tv will once again stream the gala live.
