Zaki Ibrahim Covers Leonard Cohen’s ‘Show Me The Place’ For Polaris Cover Sessions #6
Zaki Ibrahim has covered Leonard Cohen’s “Show Me The Place” for the latest edition of the Polaris Cover Sessions.
Ibrahim’s take on the song from Cohen’s 2012 Polaris Music Prize Long Listed album Old Ideas is the sixth in the ongoing series of Polaris Cover Sessions. These sessions feature past Polaris nominees reimagining the songs of other former nominees.
“The words are quite strong. It’s like paralleling love as if it was an addiction, as if you were a slave to that love,” says Ibrahim in the song’s video. “It strikes a chord on many levels.”
Ibrahim made the Polaris Short List in 2013 for her album Every Opposite.
Other songs in the Polaris Cover Sessions series include Whitehorse performing The New Pornographers’ “Bones Of An Idol,” Sarah Harmer performing Caribou’s “Odessa,” Great Lake Swimmers performing Sarah Harmer’s “I’m A Mountain,” Arkells doing Owen Pallett’s “I Am Not Afraid” and Joel Plaskett covering Feist’s “Bittersweet Melodies.”
Last year Polaris teamed up with Samo Media to produce a special promotional 10″ record featuring the Whitehorse, Sarah Harmer and Great Lake Swimmers sessions.
Cover Session are presented by SiriusXM Canada and supported by SOCAN.
