Artist Bio
MontesK is a Cuban-Canadian composer, songwriter, writer, and multidisciplinary artist with more than three decades of creative work and a catalogue of over 1,500 original songs registered with SOCAN. His artistic career began in Cuba, where he worked for more than 20 years as an Artistic Director and also as an actor and writer of radio programs at CMHW. A songwriter since 1991, his background in music, radio, literature, and performance has shaped a distinctive approach to storytelling through song. His published literary works include the poetry book Manifiesto del Alma and the children’s book En Busca de la Ternura. MontesK’s music is not defined by a single performing voice. His original songs are interpreted by different voices chosen according to the character, emotion, and personality of each composition. His artistic signature lies in his lyrics, stories, melodies, and compositional style. MontesK is a member of ACDAM, SGAE, and SOCAN, as well as a member of the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS), participating in the JUNO Awards voting process. His songwriting has received international recognition, including two semifinalist songs in the 2025 International Songwriting Competition (ISC), finalist recognition at the 2025 InterContinental Music Awards, finalist recognition in the 2025 John Lennon Songwriting Contest, and five finalist songs at the 2026 InterContinental Music Awards. Through an extensive and continually growing catalogue, MontesK explores diverse musical styles while maintaining a consistent artistic identity centered on original songwriting, storytelling, and the unique personality of each song.
