Artist Bio

Ian Alistair Gosbee is a Canadian singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, author, and longtime music community contributor from Nova Scotia. With over 30 years of creative experience, Ian has built a diverse catalogue that blends country, folk, rock, hip-hop, funk, instrumental jazz, and storytelling-driven songwriting. His music is rooted in real life: family, resilience, small-town memories, personal growth, heartbreak, humour, and the determination to keep moving forward.

His new album, Bounce Back, marks another creative chapter in his expanding catalogue. Set against a hip-hop foundation with a Canadian East Coast spirit, the album explores themes of perseverance, self-worth, regret, growth, friendship, grief, focus, summer energy, and small-town pride. Songs like “Bounce Back,” “Know My Worth,” “Still Here,” “Used to Be Brothers,” “Tunnel Vision,” “Small Town Dreams,” and “Summer Nights” reflect Ian’s ability to step into a new genre while keeping the honesty and emotional connection that define his work. The album carries a message that life may knock you down, but you can always rise again with purpose, confidence, and heart.

Ian’s musical journey has never been limited to one sound. His previous work includes country, folk, rock, traditional influences, and instrumental projects, including albums such as Ray of Sunshine, Chillax, and Broken Hearts and Whiskey Roads. His songs have received radio play across Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom, and he has earned recognition through songwriting competitions, music awards, and industry nominations. His track “Have a Little Fun with It” reached the Canadian Indie Country Countdown, while “Ray of Sunshine” and other releases helped expand his presence with independent music audiences.

Ian has been recognized as a 2024 Music Nova Scotia Country Album of the Year nominee, a 2024 ECMA Honorary Stompin’ Tom Award recipient for Mainland Nova Scotia, and a finalist in competitions including America’s Next Hitmaker, the World Songwriting Awards, and the UK Songwriting Contest. His music has also earned strong online engagement, including hundreds of thousands of plays and video views across platforms.

Beyond performing and recording, Ian is deeply committed to the music community. He has volunteered for more than three decades with organizations and initiatives supporting artists and the industry, including work connected to FACTOR, Music PEI, Music Nova Scotia, Music New Brunswick, the East Coast Music Awards, and the JUNO Awards as a judge and contributor. His dedication to community service has also been recognized outside of music, including recognition by Government House Halifax for volunteer service with Feed Nova Scotia.

Ian is also an author, using his experience as a musician and creative professional to help others. His books include Songwriting 101: From Inspiration to Composition, Road Fuel: The Ultimate Guide to Healthy Eating on the Road, and Sound Mind: Mental and Emotional Wellness for Musicians. Through his writing, Ian supports artists with practical guidance on creativity, wellness, songwriting, touring, and resilience.
