Artist Bio

After years of trying to find a creative outlet, Northern BC’s MEGAFAUNA found release in – of all things – Garage Band. Creating simple beats on their phone, a project began to take shape, that would eventually become MEGAFAUNA. From there it has been a process of throwing just about everything they can at the wall to see what sticks. Creating live and improvised film scores for movies like Nosferatu and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, contributing music to video games, performing live in intimate settings as well as bringing the house down at music festivals, and creating deeply personal and meditative works in their album output, it’s safe to say that MEGAFAUNA is steadily figuring out exactly who they are, without imposing the limits of any genre or style.

Since 2024 they have released 2 full albums, one compilation, 4 EPs, and featured on songs from artists like Ashen Pall, Nodine, and Espi Kvlt. They’ve also been featured on compilations released by Ultrapop, Ampwall, Food Desert Recordings, Okupas Fundraising, and ArrhythNia Records. They have been interviewed by CBC’s Daybreak North, Metal Riot, Schaden Collective, Absolute Underground, and reviewed by folks at Sleeping Village, Fringes of sound, and more. They have been featured at events as nearby as their local library, and as far flung as Queens New York, and are only continuing to pick up the pace.

Much of the musical output from MEGAFAUNA comes from deeply personal places, coping and understanding their own mental health after a mental illness diagnosis not long before the project started. They have found music to be a cathartic and meaningful way to cope with the world around them, by both finding the light in it and embracing the challenging parts.

They refuse to be defined by a specific genre, and coined “despairtronica” as something of a self-effacing label. Their music ranges from somber and serious to upbeat and danceable to screeching walls of sound, but always remains deeply personal and attempts to connect with listeners in a meaningful way.
