Door d’Or craft songs from the rugged West Coast of Canada that are filled with hope and an awakening spirit. Reuniting after years apart, Mike Ison, Mat Geddes, and Darin Steinkey rediscovered their sound in a jam space known for its golden door—a symbol of shelter, friendship, and renewal. Rooted in improvisation and connection, their music invites listeners on a journey through shadows toward something luminous.
The band recorded their debut album, The Exquisite Dream, in the fall of 2025. The record was conceived with a focus on translating live energy into a dynamic, in-studio recording that takes an optimistic vision of the future. Recorded with Juno-award winning producer Colin Stewart, the
album blends atmospheric guitars, post-punk textures, and melodic tension, delivering a sound that’s immersive, immediate, and crafted for attentive listening.
Songwriter Mat Geddes combines the dust of sacred sites and the sweat of adventure to form lyrics that search for meaning in the spaces between human existence and the cosmos. Owen Sandquist-Sherman, who replaced Ison on bass, lays down ethereal bass-lines that reverberate
from hip-hop to reggae to Dead-like jams, locking in with the pulse and foundational dynamics of drummer Darin Steinkey. Evan Fryer adds harmonic richness and textural depth on keys while Ry Clayton’s lead guitar wails his unique combination of blues, rock, and country.
