Shad, Marie Davidson, Rich Aucoin Lead Release Roundup For October 31, 2025

Happy Halloween/Blue Jays Anticipated Victory Day. On this most sacred of days for those of us who wear black and walk the line between good and evil, former Polaris jury foreperson Liisa Ladouceur’s recent column “There is no goth revival – the spooky subculture never died” for The Globe And Mail feels timely.

That said, a surprisingly non-goth cast of #PolarisPeople have released new music this week.

* All-time most Polaris Short List nominee (5x) Shad has released Start Anew via Secret City Records.

* Rich Aucoin (2x Long List) has released Synthetic: Season 4 via We Are Busy Bodies.

* #Polaris2025 Short Lister Marie Davidson has released the “City Of Clowns (MDJ Tools)” 12-inch single, complete with two Soulwax remixes.

And when it comes to playlist refreshment needs, there are new songs from The Weather Station, Orville Peck, Arkells, and Ben Cook from Fucked Up under the GUV alias.

Keep it spooky out there and if you can’t think up a costume idea “Happy/Sad Blue Jays Fan” will do in a pinch.

Release Roundup is a weekly feature highlighting new Canadian music from artists recognized by the Polaris Music Prize. With over 760 alumni since 2006, Polaris continues to champion music as art—supporting artists through prizes, performances, and exposure.
