Listen To The Polaris Sound Series: Indigeneity Playlist
The Indigenous storytellers in this playlist will take the listener on a sonic journey through the experiences of the Indigenous people of Canada, laying bare the scars of colonialism, and lead us from the pain, frustration and desperation to the glorious resurgence of cultural liberation and pride.
Everything in this world is part of a single whole. Our bodies, minds, spirits, and emotions are shaped through our shared experience on this land. We must listen to the stories of others to learn and understand how to embrace our differences, respect our strengths, and appreciate how we are all truly connected.
Listen to songs by past Polaris Music Prize winners such as Inuit experimentalist Tanya Tagaq, classical-trained tenor Jeremy Dutcher, folk hero Buffy Sainte-Marie and Afro-Colombian synth-pop artist Lido Pimienta. Appearances are also made by electronic powwow-step DJ crew A Tribe Called Red, hip-hop duo Snotty Nose Rez Kids, pop rock band Ghostkeeper, folk artist Lee Harvey Osmond, alternative country band Blackie & The Rodeo Kings, and singer-songwriters iskwē and Brian Davey.
