Here are the big 40, revealed lovingly today at 1:30 via @polarisprize on the Twitter. And at The Drake Sky Yard by Grant Lawrence, with assists to Jill Barber, D-Sisive, Elliott BROOD and Damian from 2009 winners Fucked Up. They will be narrowed to 10 and announced July 6, time TBA.

By now most people who follow Polaris know that there is no submission process for Polaris. So how the heck does anyone ever get nominated if artists or their representatives can't actually submit their recording for consideration?
Good question.
Allow us to explain.
We've decided when things are happening this year. And now we're excited to let you know.
The Long List of 40 titles will be announced June 17th. The Short List of 10 nominees will be announced on July 6th. Both lists will be revealed live at events to be held at the Drake Hotel in Toronto.
The winner will be revealed Monday, September 20th at the Polaris gala and exclusively broadcast live to North America on SIRIUS Satellite Radio Channel 86 and to the world on CBC Radio 3.
Congratulations to past Polaris Long List and Short List nominees who nailed 20 Juno nominations today.
This January 26, 7pm at the Spoke Club in downtown Toronto, Polaris is hosting a special discussion featuring selected jury members who have also written music books.
Toronto Public libraries have teamed up with Polaris to bring some fine all-ages and Polaris-related musical entertainment to libraries in the GTA, including a special information session with Polaris founder Steve Jordan. See the link for more information.
